House of the Dragon Black vs Green
Season 2 for House of the Dragon is fast approaching and with that comes the question, whose side are you on? Alicent or Rhaenyra? Hightower or Targaryen? Green or Black?
This question is why the show works so well. There's no wrong answer here, both sides are doing what they think is right based on the information they are given. The oncoming war that's about to unfold all started from a simple miscommunication between Alicent and the late King Viserys. It's easy to think Rhaenyra had her throne stolen from her, but as far as Alicent knows, Viserys wanted Aegon to rule. There is no good & evil here, only a winner & a loser.
Black
Team Black is the more popular choice and it's not hard to see why. Rhaenyra & Daemon are a formidable team and technically she is the rightful heir to the throne. Daemon's ruthlessness may give them the edge but, we've seen how treacherous he can be. Daemon could be in this for himself. Only time will tell where his loyalties lie. While they may work well together, their relationship is weird. Especially when you consider they are related, Daemon is Rhaenyras uncle! It's a little off-putting, to say the least. That aside, I'd love to see Rhaenyra overthrow Aegon and take her rightful place on the Iron Throne.
Green
Sure Aegon may not be the best choice for the throne, but it's the Hightowers who are really in control here. I really hope Season 2 spends a lot more time with Alicent. She has the potential to grow just as powerful as Rhaenyra. We have already seen the lengths she is willing to go to protect her family, and unlike Cersei from Game of Thrones, Alicent seems to be fairly likeable. Her motives are only to fulfil what she thinks are the king's wishes and do what is best for both the realm and her family. She has no ambitions to claim the throne herself, and unlike Rhaenyra if peace were an option I think she would take it. It will be interesting to see how her character evolves this season. Team Green's drawbacks? Pretty much every other character. Aegon, Aaemond, Criston Cole & Otto Hightower are all so unlikeable and nasty, that they are almost impossible to root for at the moment. But there's always a chance for redemption (Look at the Hound from Game of Thrones). I reckon Team Green will be a lot more popular by the end of season 2. Assuming we get more character development for them.
Season 2 of House of the Dragon comes to our screens on the 16th of June. As for who I'm rooting for? Team Black has my vote for now. They do have a former Time Lord on their team after all! House of the Dragon Season 1 was one of my favourite shows in 2022. (See my review here.) The wait is almost over, the war is about to begin.
